Self Care for Constipation That You Should Know

Immediate Constipation Relief

Constipation is very common and it may affect most people at some point in their lives. Although it is more common to older people, it can affect people of all ages. Irregular bowel movement or having fewer than three bowel movements per week is the common symptom of constipation. Stools are usually hard, dry and difficult to pass. Learning the appropriate self-care for constipation can be very helpful to relieve your problems in eliminating stools.

Self care for constipation no.1: Laxatives. As an immediate relief for constipation, over-the-counter laxatives can be helpful but you have to know that being dependent on laxatives is not good because your body might forget how to eliminate stool on its own. There are different forms of laxatives and they work in various ways so it is best to see your doctor and avoid self-medication to know the best medication that will work for you.

Self care for constipation no.2: Do not ignore the urge to bowel movement. There are situations that you need to hold back your bowel movement because you prefer to do it at home or you are too busy that you do not want to be interrupted but you should not make it a habit to ignore the urge to eliminate because holding back one's bowel movement can lead to constipation if the delay is too long.

Self care for constipation no.3: Gradually increase fiber in your diet. Lack of fiber in your diet may lead to constipation. Increase fiber in your diet to meet the recommended daily fiber needs of 20-35 grams. Cruciferous vegetables which include cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli and fruits with edible skins like apples, grapes and berries are fiber-rich foods. Whole grains like bread, cereals, oats and corn are also rich in fiber. It would be very helpful to eat at least three servings of raw vegetables and fruits everyday. Gradually add high fiber foods on your diet to let your colon adjust to the changes and prevent excess gas or bloating. Avoid foods that may cause constipation like processed meat, dairy products, sugary foods and other low-fiber foods.

Self care for constipation no.4: Exercise regularly. Inactivity may cause constipation so keep moving and make it a point to exercise at least 30 minutes daily. Brisk walking, swimming and aerobics are some of the physical activities that you can do to keep an active lifestyle. Older people tend to be less physically active and this is one of the reasons why constipation is common to older people. Know the best physical activities that suit your capability and keep a physically active lifestyle. Regular exercise is not only good for your constipation but also for your over all health.

Self care for constipation no.5: Take in enough fluids. Dehydration may lead to constipation so be sure to take in enough fluids to avoid constipation. Fluids maybe water or fruit juices but avoid coffee, cola drinks and alcoholic drinks because caffeine and alcohol are substances that could worsen constipation. With enough fluids, your stool will become softer and easier to pass.

The above mentioned self-care for constipation can be very helpful but you have to know that chronic constipation could be a symptom of medical issues like hypothyroidism, diabetes, IBS or irritable bowel syndrome, problems with the colon and dysfunctional nerves and muscles in the rectum, anus and intestines. It is best to see your doctor if you have chronic constipation. If you want to explore on natural remedies visit Constipation Natural Cures

Understand Relieve Arthritis Pain With Blackstrap Molasses far more

First of all, let's look at the definition of blackstrap molasses - blackstrap is just one type of molasses which is the dark liquid byproduct of the process of refining sugar cane into table sugar, being made from the third boiling of the sugar syrup. It is the concentrated byproduct left over after the sugar's sucrose has been crystallized. It is an extremely rich source of vitamins and minerals. Blackstrap Molasses is found in good supermarkets and health food stores. Get the best quality available and make sure it's without sulphur. Store the bottle in the refrigerator once it's opened or a cool, dry place and it should keep for a good six months. Many people have been helped with their arthritis pain by taking one tablespoon of blackstrap molasses either by itself or dissolved in a cup of warm water. People start the day with this and maybe another dose either during the day, if necessary, or at night. Please remember this is a form of sugar and you should clean your teeth afterwards or risk tooth decay! Arthritis sufferers often take this natural remedy instead of a pain killer, and why not, if it works for you! You can experiment with this - if it isn't working well enough, then take two tablespoons instead of one, but one tablespoon seems to work for most people. Another tip about taking the molasses. If you have a hard time getting it down, then help yourself by adding orange or apple juice, even lemon juice. The main thing is that you take it so it's up to you to make it as pleasant as you can...

Another use is to dissolve a tablespoon in warm water and soak sore fingers, hands, wrists or feet to relief arthritis pain. People with fibromyalgia or carpal tunnel syndrome could also benefit from this.

As you have read above, blackstrap molasses is very rich in vitamins and minerals so it can help with many ailments - here are a few:

Canker sores: put it directly on the canker sore for almost immediate relief.

Constipation: Use a couple of tablespoons - it's a great laxative .

Energy: People report that they have much more energy and helps sugar cravings.

Acid Reflux: results are within days of first taking it.

Anemia: Blackstrap molasses is good as it contains so much iron - in fact it contains more iron than nine eggs!

Hair: Brings back the shine and apparently can even reverse graying hair.

From the above you can see that blackstrap molasses can be a great benefit for your health. It's easy to find in your supermarket or health food store and is a wonderful natural pain reliever especially for arthritis.

Constipation is when a person has a troubled bowel movement. It is not a disease by itself. One is constipated only if there is no bowel movement for at least 3 days a week. If this happens, the person will find it painful and hard during the movement. It is found in all age groups and it happens to everyone at some or the other point of life.

This does not usually need a medical check-up or a doctor's appointment. There are several home remedies to cure constipation. By involving a lot of products that contain fibre can easily prevent this condition. Foods that contain less fibre should be tried and avoided. A balanced diet containing cereals and grains, fruits, vegetables etc is a must. A lot of water or water substances like fruit, vegetable juices should be drunk daily. For better digestion, a soup is also suggested. Any substances that contain caffeine should be controlled. Alcohol usage should also be controlled.

People who are in a habit of having a lot of sugary and sweet substances are prone to this condition. There should always be a control on what is eaten and how much is eaten. Flax, sesame and sunflower seeds are finely ground and taken with lots of warm water twice a day. Also, a couple of teaspoons of water with lime juice if had just after waking up can also relive from the condition.

Fruits should be had in plenty. The more the water content that goes in, the lesser the chances are for getting constipated. Citrus fruits like orange and lemon, grapes, pears, papaya etc are all good for the relief. Physical exercises can prevent constipation to a very large extend.

Most importantly, sufficient time should be given for bowel movements. The person should take care as to not delay the process as they can lead to terrible pain. The more the time the person takes to empty the bowel, the more water content is absorbed and the more painful it becomes during the movement.

If constipation arises out of medical treatment, the same doctor should be consulted and a remedy should be asked for. Natural substances like basil, dandelion, milk thistle, honey, raspberry (red), triphala etc are also used to cure constipation. The stomach pain can be reduced by drinking a teaspoon full of ginger juice.

Constipation is a condition that has got nothing to worry about. If the body is taken care well, if the food habits are good, there should be no question of this arising.

A build-up of these chemicals may cause may cause more harm to the body than good. As an alternative to laxatives, use fruits instead. Amongst all fruits and vegetable, ripe bael can produce the same effect and is safer to use. Besides its laxative properties, the fruit is successful in toning up the intestines and cleaning them in the process. As with other forms of laxatives, this fruit should only be taken in moderation and for a limited time only.

With people who suffer from constipation should avoid drinking milk, more specifically, cow's milk. Soy milk and fat free milk are possible alternatives. Adding two to three teaspoons ordinary castor oil, honey or psyllium husk to a glass of milk are other simple home remedies to constipation. People are advised to drink this concoction before bedtime. Water and fruit juices are other liquids that should be consumed regularly if experiencing symptoms associated with constipation. A mixture consisting of equal parts of olive oil and orange juice is also effective in alleviating constipation symptoms. With regular exercise, eating more fruits and vegetables and chewing more thoroughly, finding relief from constipation has become easier.

The Danger of Constipation is that if what goes in does not come out, the toxins will accumulate in the colon and throughout the bloodstream. The toxins literally poison the body. If the toxins don't get released from the body, sickness and disease can take over.

So how do you get constipation relief? There are many ways.

One way to get relief from constipation is by drinking 100% Distilled Aloe Vera. I recommend "George's 100% Distilled Aloe Vera".  You can get this at your local health store.

Another way to relieve constipation is everyone's favorite: to exercise. Exercise helps alleviate constipation because it stimulates the intestines... which helps one go to the bathroom.

A third way to get constipation relief is to add fiber to your diet. Apples (especially organic apples) are an awesome way to help constipation. You've heard the expression "an apple a day keeps the doctor away." Well, this is probably the reason that saying is true. Since constipation can cause sickness... and apples alleviate constipation, there is no need to go to the doctor.

There are also many other ways to get fiber into the diet. Many cereals have high fibers... a lot of vegetables (green beans and peas are excellent sources) have a lot of fiber in them... and beans are great sources of fiber. Also, psyllium is another way to get fiber into your diet. You can get this at your local health store. Make sure you are getting about 32 grams of fiber each day.

Whatever method you choose to get relief from constipation, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you get rid of the toxins that are poisoning your body... so you don't end up getting sick or worse, getting a serious disease.

Why Constipation Problems Increase As We Age

Constipation

Constipation

People define constipation in different ways. Some define it as having less than three bowel movements a week. Others define it as a difficulty of passing stool. And still others define it as the inability to completely empty the large intestine. However it is defined, it is one of the illnesses that affect more Americans than practically any other condition. The causes of constipation are many, but nearly all of them come down, in one way or another, to food choices. Whether it is not eating enough fiber, taking too many laxatives, or taking medicines that cause constipation - most instances involve food choices.

Studies have shown that those who eat a high fiber diet are least likely to experience constipation. The USDA Food Pyramid has breads, cereals, rice and pasta on the bottom layer. Just above it are vegetables and fruits. If Americans were simply to follow the suggestions of the food pyramid, they would get enough fiber in their diet through simply eating their normal meals each day. Unfortunately, most people don't follow the food pyramid. In the high stress world of today more and more people are eating unhealthy refined foods and fewer are eating the types of foods that would alleviate most of their digestive problems.

Once people reach the age of sixty or so, the incidences of constipation begin to rise dramatically. This is mainly due to two things that happen as we get older. One is that we tend to drink less water as we get into our sixties, seventies, and so on. There are various theories for why this happens. One theory is that the elderly drink less water consciously so that they can avoid having to go to the bathroom as much. Another is that the thirst mechanism works less well as we age, so the proper triggers that prompt us to drink, don't kick in as well.

The second reason that incidences of constipation increase as we age is that we exercise less. Studies show that those who lead a sedentary life style experience much more incidences of constipation than those with an active lifestyle that includes plenty of exercise.

Most people with constipation try to treat it themselves rather than going to a doctor. And the way that most consumers choose to treat it is via laxatives. This is good news for the laxatives industry which enjoys increased profits year after year. Currently, the sale of laxatives in the U.S. is nearly a quarter of billion dollar business. And until we, as a nation, start to eat smarter, their profits are guaranteed to increase.

Study Cat Constipation more

Constipation

Normally a cat has bowel movements once or twice a day. If the pet does not do it or strain to do it with hard feces, the cat is suffering from Constipation. It is a very common problem with cats and an occasional bout of Constipation is nothing to worry about.

But when a cat is chronically constipated it needs serious attention. As the cats age they are more prone to this problem. There are quite a few causes of Cat Constipation. Obstructions like hairballs, tumors and foreign bodies stop the movement of the feces inside the colon, and the fecal matter builds up. This becomes a hard dry mass and distends the colon, which looses its ability to contract and expel feces. This condition is known as megacolon.

When the cats are constipated they behave in a typical manner. They run to their litter box quite often and strain to pass stool. They make noise and start licking the anal area. They lose their appetite and become sluggish. Vomiting and passing a small amount of liquid feces is quite common.

If the Constipation is not very severe, an enema will clear the colon. Hard impacted feces may have to be physically removed in a veterinary clinic under anesthesia. Intravenous liquid is also given to prevent dehydration.

After the bout of Constipation is cleared, the underlying problem, like obstruction in the colon, has to be tackled. For the cats suffering from megacolon or an untreatable or unknown problem, a management regime has to be adopted. A high-fiber diet increases the bulk and assists in bowel movement. Increase the liquid consumption of the cat by feeding canned cat food rather than dry. Milk and soup can also be tried. We have to try and get the cat to consume liquid by a means that the cat likes.

If the megacolon is advanced, no amount of management can make it propel the stool to the exit. The only alternative is surgery. The colon is removed, and most surgeries are successful.

Examine Is There Fast Relief For Constipation? more

Constipation Relief

Fast relief for constipation like over the counter drugs are popular - it is cheap and well, fast. This is a sure lazy way to wash off the constipation problem - but not the best way.

Let's us be more specific about constipation. Constipation may be defined as a common disturbance of the body digestive tract. It imply irregular bowel movements, or passing of hard and dry stool. Constipation is now the major cause of many diseases as it produces toxins which find their way into the bloodstream and are carried to all parts of the body, poisoning our body in the process. Appendicitis, rheumatism, arthritis, high blood pressure, cataract, cancer, loss of appetite, ageing are some of the diseases in which chronic constipation is an important predisposing factor.

Our stomach is designed to churn and mixes food so it can be digested and absorbed by the body. The near-liquid food then enters into the small intestine which the intestines extracts calories, minerals and vitamins. The small intestine ends in the right-lower abdomen where it connects to the colon. The colon, or large bowel as it is otherwise known, is 5 to 6 feet long. Its function is to withdraw water from the liquid stool, so that by the time the digested reaches the rectum, it has became soft formed stool. However, if an excessive amount of water is extracted, the stool can become hard and difficult to expel from the body.

Other causes of bowel difficulty include faulty and irregular habit of defecation, frequent use of purgatives, weakness of abdominal muscles due to sedentary habits, lack of physical exercise and emotional stress and strain.

So what are the common causes of constipation?

Poor diet or diets rich in animal meats but low in fibre are the most common cause of bowel difficulty. Do note that fibre helps to smoothen the bowel movements process and promoting bowel regularity.

Poor bowel movement habits - this is a common cause especially in kids. It is important that once the children are toilet trained, they must be encouraged to go to the toilet regularly everyday. Adults usually suffer from the bowel problem when they ignore the urge to evacuate the waste over a long period of time.

Constipation symptoms include lesser than three bowel movements per week, one or more episodes of stool incontinence per week, passing of huge stools in which that they obstruct the toilet, retentive posturing (withholding behaviour) and painful defecation.

Symptoms of Constipation - Take note if you experience these:

a) If you experience a variation in your bowel routine (going to toilet lesser) this is sign of constipation.

b) If you still have regular bowel habits but you are having difficulty passing stools because they are hard and small, this is also constipation.

Treating constipation include avoiding caffeine and alcohol, because they deplete body water stores. If you cannot avoid them, then try to match your caffeinated or alcoholic beverage intake with an equal amount of plain water.

Control your diet by trying to eat three meals per day that are at least 4 hours apart. Frequent feeding keeps your intestines contracting and moving smoothly stool along.

Constipation Natural Remedy Treatment That You Can Consider

By far, the most effective method is to make fundamental changes in your lifestyle. To help ease the constipation symptoms, try including a fiber supplement diet, such as oat bran, Metamucil, Konsyl or Citrucel. These natural fibre supplements help make stools softer. They are natural and are safe to use every day. Be sure to drink plenty of water or other fluids every day as well. Otherwise, fiber supplements can actually worsen your constipation problems. Incremental adding of fiber to your diet is key to avoid problems with gas.

Water is the best health drinks and is beneficial not only for constipation but also for cleaning the system diluting the blood and washing out the poisons in our body. It is highly recommended six to eight glasses of water to be taken daily. This helps facilitate digesting and dissolving food nutrients so that they can be absorbed and utilized by the body. But one must remember that water should not however be taken with meals as it actually dilutes the gastric juices which is essential for proper digestion of the food we eat.

Constipation

Foods that relieve constipation should be eaten on a regular basis by anyone that has bowel impaction or problems going to the bathroom without straining. Straining when going to the bathroom has actually caused a heart attack in many people over the years.

You do not have to be a victim if you just eat more of the foods that relieve constipation, and less of the foods that cause constipation on a daily basis. A heart attack is not the only health problem you can develop as a result from being constipated.

Chronic Constipation can lead to many other health problems:

--- Bowel Impaction
--- Re-absorption of toxins into the bloodstream
--- Headaches
--- Malnutrition
--- Indigestion
--- Hemorrhoids from straining
--- Varicose veins
--- Diverticulosis
--- Irritability
--- Bowel cancer
--- Auto immune diseases
--- Abdominal pains
--- Depression
--- Weight gain

I know I sure don't want any of the symptoms listed above. If you suffer from any of the symptoms on the list, then you would greatly benefit by eating more of the foods that are on the foods that relieve constipation list below, and avoid doing the things, and eating the foods that cause constipation that I have also listed below.

Foods that relieve constipation

--- Psyllium husks
--- Ground Flax seeds
--- Okra
--- Prunes
--- Dates
--- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
--- Potatoes
--- Lettuce
--- Onions
--- Carrots
--- Green peppers
--- Apples
--- Pears
--- Oranges
--- Grapefruits
--- Grapes
--- Strawberries
--- Beans
--- Other fruits and vegetables

Causes of constipation

--- Eating refined foods like white flour that contain no fiber.
--- Eating a lot of Cheeses
----Pasta
--- Pizza
--- Cookies
--- Drinking sodas and sugary drinks
--- Eating a lot of Meat (meat has no fiber in it)
--- Getting dehydrated
--- Overeating nuts and seeds (soaking Raw nuts overnight in water will help but they are not as tasty)
--- Drugs or Medications
--- Improper diet
--- Not going when you feel the urge and "holding it in" because you are not close to a bathroom or think you are too busy.

Over the years we have discovered that the same foods that relieve constipation, are also the same foods that are very healthy for you. The reason they are so healthy is that they contain vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and they are high in fiber. Also if you eat them raw (except beans and potatoes) they will also contain living enzymes that aid in digestion.

Let me just go over with you a few of the worst foods to eat if you are trying to relieve constipation.

Cheese

Cheeses are very clogging to your digestive track. Every time I eat cheese, or meals containing cheese, it feels like my stomach turns into a knot, and I usually feel clogged up with stomach pains for a few days until it has worked his way back out of my system.

However I have been on a healthy diet program for a long time now, so my digestive track is used to processing and eliminating my foods without them getting clogged up in my intestines.

But, if you have been eating cheese and other clogging foods for a long time, you might be used to the feeling of having a clogged up digestive track, and most people in the United States have been eating this way their whole lives so they don't know what it feels like to not have digestive pains of some type.

White bread

Just about every sandwich, every burger on a bun, dinner roles, cakes, cookies, pies, pizza, pasta, and fast food biscuits, can cause constipation, especially if they are eaten alone without enough of the foods that relieve constipation also being eaten at the same meal.

This is because they contain very little fiber in them. Any time you eat constipating type foods, you should balance it out by eating foods that are high in fiber that I have listed above.

Pizza

Pizza is another food that usually takes a long time to move through the digestive tract. Pizza is also another food that has almost no fiber in. Cheese and white bread are two of the main foods that will clog down your digestive tract. And pizza contains both.

How to avoid constipation:

--- Stay hydrated by drinking enough pure water, raw fruit juices and raw vegetable juices.
--- Stop or cut way down on eating refined foods. (They glue us down inside)
--- Eat a lot more of the foods that relieve constipation that I have listed above.

If you are constipated, then you have food that is stuck in your intestines. This food that is stuck in your intestines starts to rot more and more the longer it is in your body.

Constipation is unhealthy for the body, especially if you are eating toxic, artificial chemical containing foods, or foods that you are intolerant to. Many people have food allergies that they might not know about that can cause many different types of symptoms.

To avoid constipation, make sure that you are not eating refined starches that have had the fiber removed like white rice, pastas, breads, tortillas, and biscuits. Also when eating any type of starch, you want the meal to have enough oil in it. Extra virgin olive or coconut oil are good clean sources of oil to use.

The more oil in the meal the less chance of constipation. But too much oil will zap your energy. Also you will want to eat enough fiber containing vegetables (but not fruits) with any starch-based meal.

If you eat more raw fruit smoothies for breakfast, then the high water content (the pulp of the orange, grapes, or Grapefruit) and the fiber in pears, apples, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, and cranberries should keep things moving and rinsed out.

Also smoothies are blended into a liquid, which also helps to avoid constipation. Another good meal to eat to relieve constipation is to make a soup with many neutral vegetables, add some okra (okra is kind of slippery in texture) and then blend it into an emulsion with some Extra Virgin Olive oil or Coconut oil. These liquid type meals rarely ever get stuck inside your digestive tract.

If you eat more of the foods that relieve constipation, and cut out the constipating ones, you will have better chances of not developing bowel impaction. If you already have bowel impaction, you might be able to slowly reverse it by eating more of the foods that relieve constipation.

What exactly is bowel impaction?

Bowel impaction is where a mass of food gets stuck inside your intestines and turns into a hard lump that doesn't come out. This lump of hard fecal matter then starts to rot. Then other foods that you eat later still has to be eliminated eventually, so they just have to go around the hard mass to get out. Your body might then develop chronic diarrhea to try and deal with the situation.

Bowel impaction can lead to the bowels becoming enlarged, which can then put too much pressure on the veins that are near the colon that are coming from various organs and muscles in the body.

Your organs need a fresh steady blood supply to function properly. You want all of your organs to work as they should if you want to stay healthy. Also high blood pressure can be because you have too many of your veins being pinched off. This is how varicose veins are formed. This is also how hemorrhoids are formed.

Just think of a water hose, if you pinch of the end of it, the pressure builds up and makes the hose expand. If you have high blood pressure because of veins being pinched off, then your heart will have to work harder to pump the blood through them.

By eating more of the foods that relieve constipation on a daily basis, you will feel better, you will become more regular in your bowel movements, and you will not have to worry as much about developing a more serious disease in the future that is caused from being chronically constipated.

I know that eating refined foods, candy, cakes, crackers, cheese, and pizzas are very tasty, but they cause constipation in many people. It is just not worth it to destroy our health by eating an unhealthy diet on a consistent basis. Also, once you cut out all the junk, and only eat healthy foods for a period of time, your taste buds will adapt, and the healthy foods will actually start to taste good.

Natural Constipation Relief - Strategies That Work

Constipation Relief

There is no shortage of pharmaceuticals that attempt to relieve constipation. In so doing, the symptom rather than the cause is being addressed. This article will focus on natural constipation relief strategies that are successful, safe, and non-toxic. Be aware that upwards of 4 million adults in the United States admit to suffering from frequent constipation.

A high-fiber diet may greatly relieve constipation. Experts agree that the necessary daily fiber intake is 25 to 35 grams for those with constipation-prone irritable bowel.

Fiber is recommended because of its water-attracting qualities that can retain water in the stool, making it softer and easier to eliminate. Fiber speeds up the rate stools move through the large bowel or colon. This works in conjunction with the constipation sufferer drinking at least 64 ounces of water per day. Dehydration is a major cause of constipation. It is also recommended that one eliminate or severely restrict the intake of coffee, tea, and carbonated soft drinks.

There are two main types of fiber-soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber has a cholesterol-lowering effect on the body. Also, this type of fiber helps those with diabetes control their blood sugar.

Even though fiber often relieves constipation, not every high-fiber diet works successfully. Some foods actually contain gas-producing fibers that can create more discomfort from gas than discomfort caused by constipation, so caution is in order.

Fiber is found in whole grain products, fruits, vegetables, and meat alternatives such as nuts, dried peas and beans.

The insoluble fiber found in whole grain wheat products is the most effective in helping to regulate bowel movements. Good sources include whole wheat bread, whole wheat crackers, wheat bran muffins, and breakfast cereals containing wheat bran. The insoluble fiber found in whole wheat products is preferable in creating a high-fiber diet.

Constipation and Gas often go together and both can make life miserable. Here is a list of foods which tend to be gas-forming that one should consider eliminating or limiting until they notice improvement. This list includes but is not limited to all raw vegetables, including salads, cooked vegetables such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, corn, cucumbers, dried beans and peas, including black-eyed peas, kidney beans, lentils, fruits such as unpeeled apples, avocados cantaloupe, beer, hard-boiled eggs, nuts, popcorn, seeds, soft drinks, and wheat germ.

Some foods which may prove to be less gassy and/or cause little or no constipation include but are not limited to cooked vegetables such as asparagus, beets, carrots, green beans, green peas, mushrooms, squash, sweet potatoes, yellow beans, zucchini, fruits such as peeled apples, soft, ripe bananas, grapefruit, kiwis, ripe nectarines, oranges, ripe peaches, and ripe pears.

Exercising regularly, say three or four times per week, can have a dramatic effect on constipation and your overall digestive health. Exercise helps to increase your metabolism which, in turn, helps to regulate and normalize digestion function.

Probiotics can play a key role in natural constipation relief. Probiotics are, in essence, good bacteria. A more technical definition of probiotics is live microorganisms that provide healthy benefits when ingested by the host. In recent studies, probiotics were found to reduce constipation severity in the form of increased bowel movement. Probiotics help to balance the intestinal flora in the gut which is essential to healthy digestive function. Probiotics are also helpful in combating irritable bowel syndrome which often leads to chronic and/or severe constipation.

Squatting is the natural position best for elimination of the stool. You may want to consider placing a stool to elevate your knees during the defecation process. You can purchase an especially-designed stool to place in your bathroom as a natural aide in the elimination process.

Supplements such as magnesium and aloe vera have proven to be useful tools in combating constipation. Both aloe vera and magnesium come in capsule and liquid form. The liquid form may be easier to absorb and thus prove to be more beneficial in relieving chronic constipation.

Significant research exists that negative emotions are stored in the colon and are a major cause of constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and other digestive disorders. Stress takes many forms, but it has been proven that stress affects normal gut functioning. Muscle tension can alter the normal rhythms of the bowel, leading to constipation. If constipation is caused or partially caused by a tightening of the body or an inability to deal with stress, then constipation could well be the end result.

Many doctors now believe that patients with chronic constipation are much more likely to suffer higher rates of depression and anxiety. Two holistic modalities that might help are Emotional Freedom Technique and BodyTalk. Both of these are eclectic modalities that may involve tapping techniques, affirmations, and acupressure, a modality similar to acupuncture without the needles.

During an Emotional Freedom Technique session, you would tap on certain neurological points while saying a specific affirmation such as "Even though I suffer from constipation, I now choose to have easy and frequent bowel movements." You would tap on certain neurological points while repeating the desired affirmation three times. You would then simply say constipation while continuing to tap on certain neurological points. Body Talk uses similar tapping technology but is a far more-involved process. Both techniques have proven successful in eradicating or improving constipation, irritable bowel, and other digestive disorders in sufferers who found no relief elsewhere, particularly where negative emotions were a root cause.

Hemorrhoids Treatment - Top Tips For Immediate Relief

Immediate Constipation Relief

Hemorrhoids, also commonly known as piles, is not a particularly serious condition, but it is a very common one and if the symptoms become severe it can make your life a misery. The main symptoms are discomfort, irritation, pain and bleeding from the anus, especially during or for a while after bowel evacuation.

To obtain immediate relief from your hemorrhoids you need to both treat the symptoms themselves and avoid things that aggravate your hemorrhoids and make your symptoms worse.

Treating the Symptoms

The most effective treatments that are readily available and combat the main symptoms of hemorrhoids are:

- Creams, ointments and gels. These are applied directly to the hemorrhoids as a thin covering layer, and can be used to treat both external and internal hemorrhoids: they can be applied internally using a finger or a special nozzle (or 'pile pipe'). They usually contain a local anesthetic for quick pain relief, and form a protective layer to isolate the hemorrhoids from irritating substances. They often also contain ingredients that act to shrink the hemorrhoids. Natural astringents and soothing agents, such as witch hazel, cranesbill, aloe vera and honey, offer a viable alternative to the commercial creams, etc.

- Suppositories. These work in a similar manner to creams, ointments and gels, but take the from of a 'capsule' that is inserted into the anus and are therefore only suitable for treating internal hemorrhoids. There is little difference in effectiveness between suppositories and creams, etc. -- which to choose is largely a matter of personal preference for the method of application.

Avoiding Aggravating Factors

The effectiveness of any specific treatment will be enhanced if you also try to avoid factors that can make your symptoms worse. These include:

- Straining too much while evacuating your bowels. Don't try to force yourself to empty your bowels when you don't need to: wait until the urge to do so is strong. Also try to avoid 'holding on' unnecessarily.

- Constipation and diarrhea. Keep your stools soft and movements regular by eating a healthy diet containing plenty of fiber, and drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself well hydrated too. If you need to use a laxative to combat a bout of constipation in the short term, then use a mild one that works by softening the stools; stronger laxatives that stimulate the movement of matter through your bowels often increase straining during bowel evacuation and make your hemorrhoids worse.

- Cleaning your anal region too roughly after emptying your bowels, particularly with normal toilet paper. Use moist wipes or even wash yourself with water instead.

- Standing or sitting for too long. Get up and move around for a few minutes to get your circulation going a couple of times an hour. You can also improve your comfort while sitting by using a hemorrhoid cushion.

- Lifting heavy objects can increase the strain in the muscles of the anal region and therefore aggravate your hemorrhoids, especially when done repeatedly, such as during some weight training exercises.

- High blood pressure, which can be caused by such factors as stress and excessive salt, caffeine or alcohol consumption.

In The Longer Term

The treatments outlined above are usually very effective for reducing the symptoms of hemorrhoids in the short term, especially when accompanied by steps to reduce your exposure to aggravating factors. However, they are not a long term cure: even if your hemorrhoids heal as a result of such treatment, they are likely to recur unless you also tackle the underlying causes.

Constipation is one of the most common gastrointestinal complaints in the United States, resulting in about 2 million doctor visits annually. However, most people treat themselves without seeking medical help, as is evident from the millions of dollars people spend on laxatives each year. When compared to other diseases constipation is easily curable by adhering suitable dietary patterns. The hard and dry stools of constipation occur when the colon absorbs too much water or if the colon's muscle contractions are slow or sluggish, causing the stool to move through the colon too slowly.

There are numerous home remedies available for constipation. The truth behind the usage of home remedies in constipation condition is mainly with the available fiber content in the home remedial ingredients. Normally fruits are widely used to assist constipation. Fruits are made by nature and are a perfect food. They contain the right balance of nutrients with distilled water. You gain enormous benefits from eating fruits especially if you eat the outer skin and eat them without cooking. They are easy to digest and absorb and do not stress your colon.

Eat 3-4 apples a day to relieve constipation. It does not matter what type of apple you eat, but I like gala or Fuji apples since they are small and crisp. It is best to use fresh organic apples when eating apples as a snack since you will not know what pesticides were used in growing the apples. If apples are not organic, it is better to peel the apple before eating. In addition to dietary changes and stool softeners, many patients with constipation need a 'clean out' regimen to help get backed up stool out. We should not have to frequently use enemas or laxatives to help your patient have a BM.While there are some medical causes of constipation, such as Hirschsprung's disease, cystic fibrosis and hypothyroidism, most patients who are constipated are normal.

Dried apple slices are also a good source of fiber. However, when the slices are dehydrated most nutrients are lost but fiber is retained. Sulfur dioxide is typically used to dry apple slices and this can cause allergic or asthmatic reactions in some people. I do not recommend using dried apple slices in place of fresh organic apples. Using baked apples also helps to clear constipation. Eat one baked apple at night, right before bedtime, and one just upon rising. Do this until you constipation is cleared.

Mulberry juice has many health benefits. It is good for digestive tract illnesses. It can stimulate digestion and assimilation of nutrients in the small intestine. It is useful for older people for reliving constipation. Mulberry contains many minerals and vitamins. Boysenberry juice has a gentle natural laxative action on your bowel. When your constipation is mild, this juice will help move things in your colon.

Understand How to Use Senna For Constipation Relief additional

How to Use Senna For Constipation Relief

Immediate Constipation Relief

Immediate Constipation Relief

It is known that Egyptians used senna tea to relieve constipation. This tea is used for medium and chronic conditions of constipation. It is the chemicals anthraquinones that provide its strong action on your colon walls. Senna is the second best herb to use for chronic constipation because it creates strong peristalic action. It is readily available in health food stores or on the Internet.

Only use senna for a short time, 1- 1½ week. It is not healthy to use it for a long time, since its action moves fecal matter through your colon quickly. This quick action prevents absorption of nutrients by your colon depriving you of necessary minerals and vitamins.

Use senna only in amounts that produce the required bowel movement and stool softness to relieve your constipation. Start with small amounts and increase your amount slowly.

Senna is sold Over-the-Counter under the name Correctol®, ExLax®, Senokot®, and Smooth Move. Senokot also contain docusate sodium - a stool softener - an added benefit when hard, dry stools may cause discomfort.

Senna Tea with Potato peels

You can also prepare senna tea as follows:

Buy some senna tea at a health food. Place a tea bag into 1 ½ cups of distilled water and steep. Then, add the peel of a whole red potato. Also, add a couple slices of potato meat. Add to this, a teaspoon of wheat or oat bran and flax seed.

Simmer this combination, strain it and drink the liquid. This will give constipation relief for some of the more difficult cases of constipation. Remember the longer you simmer this combination the stronger the tea will be. Start with a 5-10 minutes and then work up to 15-20 minutes but you need to experiment with the time.

When you drink senna tea, drink only 2-3 oz. at a time and drink it only after it has cooled down. It has less of a cramping action when you drink it cool.

Senna Tea with Peppermint

Here is another senna tea you can prepare.

1 teaspoon of senna tea leaves
½ teaspoon of peppermint leaves.

Boil 8 oz of distilled water, turn the heat off, stir in the herbs. Turn the heat off and cover the glass container. Let tea simmer for 3-10 minutes.

Add honey to improve taste and some powered vitamin C if you have it.

Look for formulas that have a small amount, 1/10 of a part, of fennel, anise, or ginger to reduce any cramping that might occur with senna.

Do not drink seena tea or capsule if you have any type of colon disease, stomach pain, diarrhea, or are pregnant.

Senna Pod Tea with Prunes.

Senna Pods are milder than the leaves since the do not contain the resin. It is the resin in the senna leaves that causes griping in your colon.

If available, use around 8 pods. Heat some distilled water. Place the pods into the water for 5-10 minutes. Strain the tea and add 3-4 dried prunes or chopped prunes. Let cool and eat the prunes during the day or drink and eat a few prunes just before you go to bed. Drink only a couple ounces of the senna liquid at one time. If cramping or griping occurs, reduce the amount of tea you drink.

There you have it. You can get constipation relief with senna herb by using it in different ways.

Examine New Mother Survival Tips - Relieving Constipation a lot more

Becoming a mother is a wonderful experience, one that opens the door to a multitude of new experiences. Just like taking birth education classes before the big day, it is helpful to have some information about common issues before they arise. Although it is very normal for elimination habits to change significantly as a child develops, this kind of change tends to be a cause for alarm. We will cover some general guidelines for identifying and relieving constipation at home. This is part of a series of informative articles about lessons every mother needs to learn.

What is constipation?

Constipation is defined as a significant delay or difficulty in the elimination of stool. Newborn babies have frequent changes in their elimination patterns and these changes usually coincide with developmental growth spurts. For children who are on a regular diet of solid food, constipation is usually accompanied by dry, dark stool and its elimination can be painful. The child may try to avoid passing stool in order to avoid the pain, making the problem even worse. In general, a normal, healthy child can go up to five days between bowel movements. But, if you as a parent feel that something is just not right, give your healthcare provider a call.

What causes constipation?

Constipation is most often caused by diet. It may also be a side effect of a medication, a sign of stress, or it could be an ongoing result of a sedentary lifestyle. The first cause you need to investigate is dehydration. Is your child drinking plenty of water and eating a good supply of fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains? Or, is she like most children her age who fill up on sugary juices, sodas, and salty snacks? The common signs of dehydration are a sunken appearance of the eyes and other facial features in addition to loose skin taking some time to go back to normal after being pinched and released.

What should I do?

The first thing you should do is start keeping track of what's happening. Documenting the time and condition of the child's elimination habits as well as any food or drink she has, including the quantity and time. If the child has a fever, this may be a sign of an infection or bowel obstruction and should be documented as well. In this case, it would be best to get in touch with your healthcare provider, especially if the child is in pain. Sometimes you can isolate the cause by looking closely at what the child ate or drank before an instance of painful elimination. Giving her a warm bath and massaging her abdomen are unobtrusive ways to get things moving along. Many mothers have had success with sneaking some oils into the diet. The most effective way to solve this problem is to investigate the cause and eliminate it.

How can we avoid constipation?

Think lubrication. Although most parents prefer not to offer drinks until after the child has finished their meal, drinks are just as important as food. Our bodies are made up mostly of water and so it only makes sense that we should drink plenty of fluids. But be careful because not all fluids will help you avoid dehydration. It is a good idea for your children to get used to drinking water. Sugary juices and sodas do nothing to help their bodies and many include diuretics which actually pull fluids out of their bodies. Nothing quenches your thirst quite the way a glass of crystal clear cool water does; get this healthy habit started early.

What foods should we eat or avoid?

While maintaining good hydration is a primary concern, we also want to ensure normal elimination patterns. The foods that will help prevent constipation include vegetables like peas, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and spinach. The fruits that have enough fiber and water content to combat constipation include figs, raisins, peaches, pears and plums. It is important to your overall health to maintain a good balance of fiber-rich foods. Some grains that are popular include bran cereal and muffins, shredded wheat, graham crackers, oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat bread, popcorn and other cereals.

Be careful to limit the sugar content of these items as a high sugar content could be contributing to the problem. Another known cause of constipation is dairy products; try limiting or eliminating milk, cheese, and ice cream. If this makes the difference, your child may have a lactose intolerance issue. Other foods that are known to cause constipation are those high in starch such as bread, pasta, pretzels, crackers, mashed potatoes, apples and applesauce, bananas, white rice, carrots, and squash. These foods are fine in moderation, but should be limited if constipation recurs.

More Information - Although these guidelines have been compiled from trusted sources, it is advisable for you to discuss this topic with your healthcare provider. Wash your hands frequently and instill this habit in your children as well, particularly before and after meals and after using the restroom. To prevent constipation for you and your family, promote water as the thirst-quencher of choice, serve fiber-rich fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and encourage an active lifestyle. This combination will ensure the optimal health of all of your family members for years to come.

Constipation Remedies for Breastfed Babies

Constipation

If you thumb through most books about breastfeeding, you are not likely to find a section on constipation. This is because true constipation in a fully breastfed baby is very rare. In fact, most experts agree that if a breastfed baby is constipated, there is something medically wrong.

Breast milk is a natural laxative; however a breastfed infant may become constipated due to the introduction of foods or formula. Formula in particular is constipating. If you have recently started giving your baby formula, this may be the reason for the constipation. The single best remedy is simply more breast milk.

Reasons for constipation in a breastfed baby:

1. Illness that requires medical care (call your doctor!)

2. Formula consumption

3. Starting solids

Signs/definition:

1. The American Academy of Family Physicians defines constipation as a delay or difficulty in defecation (pooping) for more than two weeks. In a newborn (less than 6 weeks old), the AAFP recommends that parents contact their physician if their infant has had fewer than five bowel movements per week over a two-week period

2. Hard, pebble-like stools

3. Excessive straining and crying in pain. Some straining, grunting, and fussing is normal. Babies are learning how their bodies work. Grunting, straining, and fussing that results in a soft bowel movement is not constipation and does not need to be treated.

Remedy/Treatment for babies younger than 6 months:

1. If you have been exclusively breastfeeding, call your doctor right away. This could be a sign of a more serious problem and your baby needs to be evaluated by your health care professional. Constipation along with weakness, a weak cry, and reduced eating could indicate botulism. While very rare, this is a life threatening disorder and requires prompt medical care.

2. If you were providing formula as a supplement, but mostly breastfeeding, stop giving the formula and exclusively breastfeed. Cow's milk protein is very irritating to a baby's tummy and intestines. Providing only breast milk will help sooth that irritation.

3. If you have been formula feeding, start breastfeeding (if your baby is less than 2 weeks old) or get the help of an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to re-lactate. Even if you have never breastfed before, you will most likely be able to produce milk. If breastfeeding is simply not an option for you, use donor breast milk. You can either contact a milk bank (this could be expensive) or you can ask a trusted friend or family member for some of her milk.

Some health care providers discourage using un-processed breast milk since you could be exposing your baby to drugs or illness through the donor milk. However, if you trust this person and their baby is healthy, you most likely have nothing to worry about. This could be a great use for the frozen breast milk of friends who aren't sure what to do with their surplus supply. While you can try an alternate formula, they are not derived from human milk, therefore it is likely the problem will not be solved or could even get worse.

Babies older than 6 months:

1. More breast milk! If you are in the process of weaning, go back up on the number of feedings per day until the problem resolves. Back down on how much food or formula you are giving. See a Registered Dietitian to discuss solid foods that are less constipating for your baby.

2. Time. Usually, constipation will go away without any help from special foods or medications. Although there are over the counter treatments for constipation, talk to your health care provider before using them. Repeated bouts of constipation can be a sign of a more serious problem.

3. If you are certain it is constipation and you have approval from your health care provider, the American Academy of Family Physicians states that "Parents may give infants 1 oz of sorbitol-containing juice (such as prune, pear, or apple) to treat constipation." This should only be given to babies over the age of 6 months.

4. Some health care providers recommend giving corn syrup for constipation. This is not necessary as the other treatment options mentioned will usually work better. However, if you do decide to give your baby corn syrup, put 1 teaspoon in 2 oz. of water. Do not put the syrup directly into formula or pumped breast milk. Corn syrup works by drawing water into the intestines and stimulating the intestine to move stool on through. It is easy to overdo the corn syrup and cause diarrhea and electrolyte imbalance. Both of these problems can be harmful to your baby.
